"The time is always right to do what is right" - Dr. King Jr.
On Monday, January 21, citizens of Jonesboro from all backgrounds and ethinicities gathered to celebrate the profound impact that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had on our modern society during his life. The parade was held on the campus of Arkansas State University with the march stretching from the Military Science building to the Marion Berry parkway and ending at the Fowler Center back on the A-State campus. A community program was held at the conclusion of the march.
The theme for this year's parade was "unity." It was on this topic that Rev. Ray Scales, the Grand Marshal for the march, addressed the audience. His speech was incredibly empowering in his encouragement for all citizens to recognize the importance of coming together to work toward the common good.
The 17th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade was prefaced by a youth celebration on Sunday. Rev. Scales cited how impressed he was with the turn-out and hopes that the event becomes even bigger next year.
